Olivia Rodrigo at the 66th annual Grammy Awards

Olivia Rodrigo channeled Old Hollywood glamour on and off the red carpet at the 66th Annual Academy Awards. Her hairstylist, Clayton Hawkins, gave us the breakdown.

“For Olivia’s Grammys glam, we wanted to do something classic that would stand the test of time. Olivia is known for her long cascading waves, but today, we just wanted to amp it up in an old Hollywood direction.”

  1. Clayton started by applying a volumizing mousse to Olivia’s wet hair (specifically her roots) and then began to blow dry her hair using the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer Professional Edition and the professional styling concentrator attachment on medium heat and airflow settings.
  2. Once the hair was fully dry and smooth, Clayton used the Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler with the 1.2-inch Airwrap™ long barrel attachment on medium heat and airflow settings to blowout and curl Olivia’s mohawk section for added volume and then set the hair in a velcro roller going away from the face.
  3. Next, Clayton concentrated on waving Olivia’s hair using the Dyson Corrale hair styler straightener on the medium heat setting. He waved her hair in a uniform formation, going away from the face.
  4. After each section, Clayton sprayed a generous amount of extra-hold hairspray. Once all of the hair was waved, he let down the Velcro roller and brushed out all of the hair using a wide-tooth comb. Clayton’s pro tip for achieving Olivia’s old Hollywood style is to keep brushing the hair.
  5. Lastly, Clayton eschewed her normal center part and went for a gorgeous side part. The result was classic, beautiful, and very Olivia.

Coco Jones at the 66th annual Grammy AwardsCoco Jones looked whimsical on and off the red carpet at the 66th Annual Academy  Awards. Her hairstylist, Ashanti Lation, gave us the breakdown.

“Coco Jones graced the red carpet in an exquisite floor-length gown that exudes timeless elegance and contemporary charm. The dress features a deep v-neckline that adds a touch of daring allure to the shimmering seafoam green fabric that catches the light with every movement. Her hair, swept back into a classic, sophisticated, messy bun, accentuates her graceful neckline and frames her face beautifully, allowing her striking features to shine. This classic hairstyle adds a touch of refined grace, balancing the sparkling allure of her dress with a neat, uncluttered look that keeps all eyes on her radiant presence.”

  1. First, wash and condition the hair to start with a clean and fresh canvas.
  2. Next, use the L’Oreal Paris’ EverPure 21-in-1 Color Caring Spray to detangle the hair, followed by the L’Oreal Paris EverPure Weightless Blow Dry Primer to prep and protect her before applying heat.
  3. Go in again with the L’Oreal Paris’ EverPure 21-in-1 Color Caring Spray as needed, using it as a heat protectant during the straightening process.
  4. Next, Ashanti used the Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler at high heat and airflow settings with the soft smoothing brush attachment to blow dry Coco’s hair quickly and efficiently.
  5. Once Coco’s hair was pulled back and the bun was constructed, Ashanti used the Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler at medium heat and airflow settings using the 0.8-inch Airwrap barrel attachment to create and curl the fringe pieces that perfectly framed her face.
  6. Finally, use the L’Oreal Paris’ Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hair Spray to keep everything in place.
